THE LANDSCAPE: TOURISM AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

INTRODUCTION
Geology, geomorphology and landscape have profoundly influenced the civilization and cultural diversity of our planet. Geodiversity, known as the variety of geological environments, phenomena and processes that create landscapes, rocks, minerals, fossils and soils, can be considered the foundation that sustains life on Earth.

Many past geological stages left no evidence, because they were lost in the pages of the geological record due to erosion, natural or anthropogenic disturbance or sediment coverage and / or vegetation. However, there are locations that have been preserved, and represent a valuable document of unique events in the history of formation of the landscape we know today. These places deserve to be recognized, valued and preserved under the name of the Geological Heritage and according to their potential, to be used recreationally and / or tourism, educational or scientific purposes.

Considering the global crisis that includes climate change, biodiversity loss, changes in use of urban agricultural land, overexploitation of the soil, pesticide use, the sustainable development , or the use of natural resources so as to produce economic and social benefits without compromising the right of future generations to enjoy, it becomes a necessity rather than a simple idea.

Geotourism in Venezuela must take this vision of sustainable development and protection of geological heritage, as a strategy for organized communities to diversify its economy while continuing to perform their traditional practices, or to leave its territory.

Geoparks Foundation of Venezuela, in its commitment to sustainable use geoconservation and Geological Heritage Venezuela and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean for the benefit of our peoples organized the 1st National Congress Geotourism, to create a space for promotion and discussion on this practice in Venezuela, learn about initiatives that are emerging in the region and strengthen through the exchange of experiences.

The 1st National Congress of Geotourism is FREE Geoparks decision of the Foundation of Venezuela in their belief of free knowledge and education.

Venezuela Geoparks Foundation assesses the potential of Pasaguaca geotourism, Santiago Mariño Municipality, Aragua State. Circular Pre

Building on the momentum of community service that leads the Central University of Venezuela in the community of Pasaguaca, a committee of the Foundation of Venezuela Geoparks traveled to the area to assess their potential geotourism.

adobe dwellings, mystical rocks, waterfalls, flora, fauna, archeology, art and a community organized according to the appropriation of cocoa and transform their realities are part of the dynamics of this valley, a village of 442 years of existence and anthropological and geological history much older.

was emphasized in the evaluation of the route leading to the waterfall Chorrerón, more than 70 meters, which can be covered in about 90 minutes at a brisk pace, a difficulty of lower-middle route, with multiple river crossings, through a variety of crops surrounded by forest with high biodiversity.

was shared with members of the community council of "Monica's Stone" in honor of these rocks where locals say a ghost appears, were discussed with them various cultural topics that can have an idea of methodology to implement an agrarian community Pasagüaca.

a photographic record was made of various geological and cultural sites that require further investigation, however it does confirm the high potential geotouristic having this valley and its people to offer Venezuela and the world.
