geotourism Evaluation of Zaruma and Portovelo, Republic of Ecuador

Among the activities of the 1st International Workshop on Geological Heritage, Mining and Metallurgical organized by the INIGEMM in the Republic of Ecuador, included a visit to the towns of Zaruma and Portovelo in the south in order to know the state of the art concerning the protection of geological and mining heritage and proposals of this institution to sustainable development through geo-tourism in this area.

The mine was visited in Zaruma Sexmo, historical place of the colonial era, which is currently used as a mining museum with facilities receptive to groups up to 20 people for lectures and guided tours through the galleries of exploitation mining.

In a visit to the Museum Portovelo Magner Turner, owned by the same Magner, a passion for mineralogy miner has mounted its own account without institutional support (as he told us of) a museum with an impressive collection of minerals and fossils from around the world.

Zaruma - Portovelo Geopark is a potential mining, thus strengthen the declaration cultural heritage, adding values \u200b\u200bgeological and mining have been largely the cause of the existence of two mining towns.

Geopark 1st International Seminar Workshop on Geological Heritage, Mining and Metallurgy. Loja, Ecuador

A delegation from the Foundation Geoparks Venezuela (FGDV) went to Loja, Ecuador at the 1st International Workshop on Geological Heritage Seminar, Mining and Metallurgy, held on 7 and 8 June 2010 , a space where there were 2 work: "Design of Geoparks in Venezuela. Cases and experiences "and" Best Practices in Planning and Management of Geoparks, as examples in 3 continents (Asia, America and Europe), "more than 15 works of diverse parts of Latin America.

The international workshop was held on June 9, 2010, organized into 5 working groups (Inventory, Laws, Disclosure, and Social Aspects geoconservation) with subject matter experts from 10 countries (Argentina , Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela FGDV by) and was a meeting place and discussion of the National Plan for the Assessment and Start Using geological and mining heritage that has the Ecuadorian government through the National Research Institute of Geology, Mining, Metallurgical, INIGEMM ( http://www.recursosnorenovables.gov.ec/es/minas/intituto-nacional-de-investigacion-geologico-minero-metalurgico.html ).

Venezuela Geoparks Foundation in its commitment to the development of Geotourism and conservation of geological heritage, applauds this effort by the Ecuadorian government to protect the geological and mining heritage of the nation and generate tourism and education responsible to society and the environment.

Dear Friends , attendees and speakers at the 1st National Congress of Geotourism - Mérida 2010, to all a cordial greeting.

Geoparks Foundation of Venezuela expresses its most sincere gratitude for making this event to mark national pattern. Their presentations, interventions, contributions and friendship created the necessary environment for communication and learning for all participants.

370 participants, 20 papers presented, 20 universities, 18 organizations, four workshops, special meeting of the board 1 on Margarita Island in September 2010, creating the Geotourism National Network and host specificity for 2nd National Congress of Geotourism to be held in May 2011 with support from Yaracuy Yaracuyanos Tourism Corporation, s on displays of results obtained in this space.


Back to our work routines is necessary not to lose momentum and energy obtained in these days and realize the previously discussed, so we have your support to maintain lines of communication through this medium.
