2. Em these countries should strive towards the creation and development of Geoparks valuing their realities, based on one of the greatest biodiversity in the world and a wide and diverse geological history that can be discovered through exceptional sites, a long history and Memory Hunan preserved among others, thanks to the presence of indigenous peoples, thus conveying a holistic view of relationship between the Earth and its inhabitants, through the recovery of their identity.

3. Building projects Geoparks will barely make sense and success with the effective participation of all without exception.
The definition of the different elements of capital of a territory and its interests, and needs to use, conservation and recovery must be the work of multidisciplinary teams of scientists (geologists, paleontologists, biologists, educators, anthropologists, historians, economists, managers, etc.). Sustainable development policies should also be reflective work in multidisciplinary teams which include authorities at all levels, representatives of local people and representatives of society.
4. One of the oddities and richness of our mainland Hunan is the presence of indigenous populations. They have devoted their right to self determination. Are assumed to be the mirror of the natural world they live in and possess traditional knowledge and rights of protection of knowledge about plants, which include medicinal herbs, animals, landscapes, rocks and minerals. This relationship ethical, spiritual and sacred in nature must be understood as an invaluable additional value for all Project of Geoparks in Latin America and the Caribbean.

5. Sustainable development in a Geopark is not necessarily a tourist bet or sensitive natural areas open to mass tourism. Is it a conscious tourism, responsible and independent. A Geopark must be a real territory of ideas and projects and sustainable development strategy must be innovative, weighted, integrated and respectful of local traditions and wills, and must provide equality among its people. Besides that, creating a brand for local products Geopark, based on a set of quality specifications, should be an important element of economic development.

6. Geoparks are a banner of a high quality territory can hardly be obtained with networking at local, national, regional and global levels. This will allow the development of instruments of regional and global cooperation through the exchange of experiences and management practices among Geoparks and the proposal of multiple training activities both socio-economic actors of the territory as the future managers of new projects Geoparks.

and went to see the first Latin American Geopark belonging to the Global Geoparks Network (GGN by its initials in English: Global Geopark Network ), between 15 and 21 November 2010. As an organization were invited to participate in the 1st Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Geoparks, organized by the Geopark Araripe , Carirí Regional University and the state government of Ceará, with the support of Unesco and the GGN.

We had the opportunity to come two days before the event and tour some of its biggest Geosites. The Geopark is going through a stage of internal restructuring and we believe have done an excellent job. Of the places that most surprised us was the Interpretation Centre at the Exhibition Centre in the city of Crato: all geoparks we visited, is possibly the most humble and more community participation, local artists exhibit their work both the area of interpretation, and space for geoproducts and even children from local schools have their wall, where display their drawings. Really applaud this effort by the administration of the Geopark Araripe to involve the community.
Geopark Interpretation Centre Araripe, Crato, Brazil
The event was organized as part of the 1st re-evaluation by the GGN, with Guy Martini European Geoparks Network and Kristin Rangnes Gea-Norvegica Geopark (Norway). This is a procedure that occurs every 4 years in all Geoparks of the GGN, where he evaluates the work and progress of each member of the Network on issues such as Geotourism, Education and geoconservation.

passed the first two days with keynote speeches from leaders of the GGN, including Margarete Patzak (UNESCO), Patrick McKeever (Marble Arch Caves Geopark, Northern Ireland), Nickolas Zouros (Petrified Forest Geopark Island Lesbos, Greece) and Artur Sá (Arouca Geopark, Portugal), among others. Regret the absence of Prof. Ibrahim Komo (Langkawi Geopark, Malaysia) and Denise Gorfinkiel (UNESCO Latin America and Caribbean, Uruguay), who hoped to exchange regional and global insights on the subject. The third day was the turn of presentation of talks on efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish Geoparks. In this Edith presentations turn Palma de Nicaragua with the project Geopark Coco River Canyon, Margarita Etchegaray of Uruguay to the project Caves Geopark Flores, Manuel Schiling of Chile with Chilean Geopark Model project Phase 1, Fernando Miranda of Argentina to the project sites of geological interest, Marcus Fernandes of Brazil, with the Iron Quadrangle Geopark project and Francisco López Hurtado and Roig by Venezuela Geopark projects Araya, Macanao Geopark, Geopark Minas de Aroa, South Bolivar geotouristic Axis and the proposed establishment of the Observatory Regional (LAC) Geoparks.

Baños de Agua Santa, Tungurahua Province, Republic of Ecuador

The people Baños de Agua Santa, in the Republic of Ecuador, staying at their summits the Tungurahua volcano, erupting since 1999. We decided to visit a close after seeing his ashes (Figure 1) from the plane between Quito and Loja, where we went to the 1st International Workshop on Geological Heritage, Mining and Metallurgy.

Figure 1. Eruption of the Tungurahua volcano, Tungurahua Province, Ecuador.

To reach the village Baños de Agua Santa from Quito have to reach the bus terminal, we recommend you use the trolley (we were gratified by their efficiency, runs 24 hours). Upon arrival at the modern terminal Quitumbe pay $ 3.50 and get ready to enjoy 4 hours of Andean landscapes.

amazing how organized you are the people of Bath to receive tourists and risk-based volcanic. There seems to be a good plan in early warning, we assumed for its well-marked evacuation routes throughout the town (Fig. 2).

Figure 2. Signaling the evacuation route to the volcanic risk people

tourist offer is 100% nature: hot springs, waterfalls, views, and climbing the volcano, some companies offer climbing and rafting. We went to its famous hot springs and for $ 2 to enter these hot pools that make you forget any problems in the world, hence we started to climb to the Mirador de Bella Vista, where you can observe the volcano. The view of town from the climb is spectacular: a long valley, well embedded between these volcanic mountains (Fig. 3)

Figure 3. Valle de Baños de Agua Santa

The climb is not easy, is very steep and have to be a little in the way, after an hour of walking we reach one of the lookouts. To our surprise, although the last tourists that we are in the way we said it was quite cloudy and there was a volcano, when we arrived and discovered stunning displays, we saw it erupt (Fig. 4)

Figure 4. Tungurahua Volcano Eruption, June 14, 2010

A site with tremendous potential for geo-tourism practices and geoconservation, working in education on geological hazards, community involvement in tourism strategy and be a potential Geopark.

We were very pleased with the visit of Tungurahua, we hope to return, although in better shape.

Puyango, Republic of Ecuador

Puyango The Petrified Forest is a nature reserve of approximately 2659 hectares located south of Ecuador, is crossed by the river Puyango that divides the province of El Oro and Loja. It is located 111 km to 225 km from Machala and Loja ( Ecostravel ).

The reserve protects a typical tropical dry forest, but also houses one of the most impressive treasures paleobotanical the continent: a petrified forest Cretaceous trunks more than 65 million years turned into stone and preserved until today, surprised at the similarity to a real trunk, even preserved growth rings, giving valuable information on climate and atmosphere at the time, and due to impurities of iron and magnesium (mainly) who were part of its fossilization have very similar colors and shades to the trunks are not fossilized, a wonder of geology . ;

local government in partnership with the ministry tourism has generated amazing results in the petrified forest Puyango reception facilities for visitors: A museum paleontological and mineralogical components of the area, a cafeteria and totally made of wood trails to avoid contact with fossil logs. It is beginning to implement another route to some waterfalls that are within the reserve, near the Petrified Forest, to diversify tourist proposal.

Venezuela Geoparks Foundation appreciates the invitation and acknowledge the effort and advances geotouristic Puyango Petrified Forest, National Geopark future of the Republic of Ecuador.

geotourism Evaluation of Zaruma and Portovelo, Republic of Ecuador

Among the activities of the 1st International Workshop on Geological Heritage, Mining and Metallurgical organized by the INIGEMM in the Republic of Ecuador, included a visit to the towns of Zaruma and Portovelo in the south in order to know the state of the art concerning the protection of geological and mining heritage and proposals of this institution to sustainable development through geo-tourism in this area.

The mine was visited in Zaruma Sexmo, historical place of the colonial era, which is currently used as a mining museum with facilities receptive to groups up to 20 people for lectures and guided tours through the galleries of exploitation mining.

In a visit to the Museum Portovelo Magner Turner, owned by the same Magner, a passion for mineralogy miner has mounted its own account without institutional support (as he told us of) a museum with an impressive collection of minerals and fossils from around the world.

Zaruma - Portovelo Geopark is a potential mining, thus strengthen the declaration cultural heritage, adding values geological and mining have been largely the cause of the existence of two mining towns.
