The Geoparks Foundation of Venezuela has been evaluating the potential of the Parish geotouristic Andrés Eloy Blanco Municipality of Piar, Bolívar state, providing support to a group of enthusiasts who belong to the Pao Commune Ezequiel Zamora that long ago have been working to develop the idea geo-tourism project in its territory.

The Pao is recognized for having the largest iron mine across the country, which were drawn more than 100 million tonnes of ore over several decades of exploitation, was abandoned in 1995 and leaving large numbers of unemployed. The iron mine of El Pao target is projected as a high environmental quality geotouristic in education, research, and social inclusion geoconservation to be able to develop a host of activities encourage direct and indirect jobs arising from your use sustainable. This group of enthusiastic community Pao Ezequiel Zamora proposed here not only geotouristic interest, but a series of natural sites (Mina Breaks Down, viewpoints, and Guri dams Caruachi), culture (cuisine, crafts, cocoa production ) and historical (history of El Pao) that complement the tourism future.

We have been actively working in technical support Photographic, geosites georeferencing as a first activity for the beginning of 2011, has proposed the creation of a photographic exhibition on the attractions of the territory of the Commune and the presentation of the project to the Community.
hope that in the coming years it could be a Geopark driven from the community who have the coordination of Ezequiel Zamora Municipality Pao, and direct support Geoparks Foundation of Venezuela, CVG Ferrominera, Municipality of Piar Municipality , Bolivar State Government, Ministry of Tourism, among others directly related to this territory, in order sustainable development of this great community and a boost to the construction of popular power.
