STATEMENT OF Araripe (Spanish - Portuguese - French)


DECLARACIÓN DE ARARIPE

Between 17 and 19 November 2010, was organized in the Geopark Araripe (Brazil) the 1st Conference of Latin American and Caribbean Geoparks (LAC), with the support of UNESCO, com attended by 250 delegates representing countries from different continents.
As a result of meetings and discussions held during this event, was adopted by participants Araripe Declaration as follows:

1. Geoparks developed under the support of UNESCO are the new territories of the XXI century.
philosophy and vision of these areas, where conservation recovery and education both on the Geological Heritage - the memory of the Earth - such as natural heritage and the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, are at the service of sustainable development and correspond to a need and a concern for the peoples of the mainland of Latin America and the Caribbean.
2. Em these countries should strive towards the creation and development of Geoparks valuing their realities, based on one of the greatest biodiversity in the world and a wide and diverse geological history that can be discovered through exceptional sites, a long history and Memory Hunan preserved among others, thanks to the presence of indigenous peoples, thus conveying a holistic view of relationship between the Earth and its inhabitants, through the recovery of their identity.

6. Geoparks are a banner of a high quality territory can hardly be obtained with networking at local, national, regional and global levels. This will allow the development of instruments of regional and global cooperation through the exchange of experiences and management practices among Geoparks and the proposal of multiple training activities both socio-economic actors of the territory as the future managers of new projects Geoparks.

7. The Government Ceará State, creator, along with the Regional University Carirí, the first Geopark in Latin America and the Caribbean, with support from the Federal Government of Brazil, is committed to this statement to mobilize the human, technological and economic support and facilitate the development of Geoparks projects in this region, thus predating the creation of a future Latin American Network of Geoparks.

The philosophy and vision of those territories, where the conservation, recovery and education on both the Geological heritage - the memory of the Earth - such as on the natural heritage and the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, are at the service of sustainable development and respond to a need and a concern of the peoples of the mainland of Latin America and the Caribbean.
2. These countries should strive for the establishment and development of Geoparks valuing their reality based on one of the greatest biodiversity the world and a wide and diverse geological history that can be discovered through exceptional sites, and a long history of human memory, preserved from diamonds, thanks to the presence of the indigenous population, thus transmitting a holistic view of the relationship between Earth and its inhabitants, through the redemption of your identity.

7. Its development strategy development must be innovative, balanced, inclusive, respectful of local traditions and wishes and ensure fairness for its people.

6. The Geopark territory represent a standard of quality that can only be achieved through a working network of local, national, regional and global levels.

7.
