and went to see the first Latin American Geopark belonging to the Global Geoparks Network (GGN by its initials in English: Global Geopark Network ), between 15 and 21 November 2010. As an organization were invited to participate in the 1st Latin American and Caribbean Conference on Geoparks, organized by the Geopark Araripe , Carirí Regional University and the state government of Ceará, with the support of Unesco and the GGN.

We had the opportunity to come two days before the event and tour some of its biggest Geosites. The Geopark is going through a stage of internal restructuring and we believe have done an excellent job. Of the places that most surprised us was the Interpretation Centre at the Exhibition Centre in the city of Crato: all geoparks we visited, is possibly the most humble and more community participation, local artists exhibit their work both the area of \u200b\u200binterpretation, and space for geoproducts and even children from local schools have their wall, where display their drawings. Really applaud this effort by the administration of the Geopark Araripe to involve the community.

The event was organized as part of the 1st re-evaluation by the GGN, with Guy Martini European Geoparks Network and Kristin Rangnes Gea-Norvegica Geopark (Norway). This is a procedure that occurs every 4 years in all Geoparks of the GGN, where he evaluates the work and progress of each member of the Network on issues such as Geotourism, Education and geoconservation.

passed the first two days with keynote speeches from leaders of the GGN, including Margarete Patzak (UNESCO), Patrick McKeever (Marble Arch Caves Geopark, Northern Ireland), Nickolas Zouros (Petrified Forest Geopark Island Lesbos, Greece) and Artur Sá (Arouca Geopark, Portugal), among others. Regret the absence of Prof. Ibrahim Komo (Langkawi Geopark, Malaysia) and Denise Gorfinkiel (UNESCO Latin America and Caribbean, Uruguay), who hoped to exchange regional and global insights on the subject. The third day was the turn of presentation of talks on efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish Geoparks. In this Edith presentations turn Palma de Nicaragua with the project Geopark Coco River Canyon, Margarita Etchegaray of Uruguay to the project Caves Geopark Flores, Manuel Schiling of Chile with Chilean Geopark Model project Phase 1, Fernando Miranda of Argentina to the project sites of geological interest, Marcus Fernandes of Brazil, with the Iron Quadrangle Geopark project and Francisco López Hurtado and Roig by Venezuela Geopark projects Araya, Macanao Geopark, Geopark Minas de Aroa, South Bolivar geotouristic Axis and the proposed establishment of the Observatory Regional (LAC) Geoparks.
